On Our Goals

Every race has an objective and a prize. And Pedal4Innovation has them as well (besides Laurence, Peter and the rest of the cyclers getting back in shape and testing their endurance, that is).

As our name suggests already, we will be pedaling for innovation – partly for UK’s next generation of Electronic Engineers (stay tuned for more news on the idea) and partly to support two charities (Neuroblastoma Alliance UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK) that sponsor research.

Choosing a charity is not an easy thing… There were so many to pick from and by all means they all deserve any kind of support we all can provide. However, we decided that we could be of greater help, if contribute to smaller fraction of them with a greater contribution.  And this is how we got to these particular charities:

What is Neuroblastoma Alliance UK?

Neuroblastoma Alliance UK supports families with children affected by this disease and funds research that is trying to find a way out of it. But what is Neuroblastoma?…  Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in the first year of life and accounts for around 15% of cancer deaths in children. Staggering numbers involving part of what we live for, aren’t they?

What is Alzheimer’s Research UK?

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity specializing in finding preventions, causes, treatments and a cure for dementia. There is probably no need to say what Alzheimer’s disease is, because they are so many people around each and any one of us being touched somehow by it. Alzheimer’s Research UK needs our help.

Well, you pretty much already got the idea that these two are a couple of pretty nasty disease that need our attention.

How we go about the donations?

In order to streamline the charity effort and get the funds raised as soon as possible to the charities, we have created two designated JustGiving pages. All donations can be made there with an ease and we have provided you with the links to the respective JustGiving pages. Just look to the left of this post! SILICA and its partners will not accept donations, but rather direct willful to donate people to these two links.

If you are feeling already hyped and ready to contribute, pull out you credit card and follow the steps at our JustGiving donation pages!
